Point Baker, Alaska

Unincorporated
Population: 35
Point Baker Community Association: 907-559-2204

Point Baker is located on the most northern tip of Prince of Wales Island and is accessible by boat or floatplane. Scheduled floatplane service is provided via Ketchikan with additional charter flights from Wrangell and Petersburg.

The early 1930's saw the creation of home sites after several floating fish buyers worked the area for the troll fleet. The U.S. Post Office opened its doors around 1942 and continues to serve Point Baker and Port Protection residents.

The main economy is the commercial troll and gillnet fleets, which is enhanced during the summer with pleasure and charter vessels. Local residents contribute to the economy with a full service fishing lodge, two sawmills, and a kelp company (producers of quality kelp-based agriculture amendments and food supplements.)

Other services include the 440 foot State Float, where dock power is provided for a fee, but there are no moorage fees. The community building provides long distance phone and fax services. Attractions include soaring eagles and blue heron, while the ocean provides whales, otters, abundant salmon species and halibut. Local artists display their artwork and jewelry at the store.
