AP&T CPIC Survey

AP&T Customer Power Interruption Cost Survey

We are always looking for ways to improve the service we provide to you. Alaska Power & Telephone (AP&T) is working with Argonne National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Carnegie Mellon University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage to conduct a study to better understand how electricity outages affect customers. This research is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Energy Transitions Initiative. The study results will be used to estimate the value of improved resilience from adopting advanced technologies in the AP&T service territory.

We would like to hear from residents and small-medium sized businesses. Please click the following link to participate in this online survey: https://tinyurl.com/aptoutagesurvey. Completing the residential survey will take about 25 minutes, and completing the business survey will take about 35 minutes. To participate in the residential survey, you must be at least 18 years old, receive electricity from AP&T, be aware of your home’s electricity bills, and live in Craig, Tok, Haines or Skagway. To participate in the business survey, you must operate or manage a business in Craig, Tok, Haines or Skagway, receive electricity from AP&T, served under small commercial rate schedule, and be aware of your business’s monthly electricity bill.1 If you are large commercial and industrial customers served by bulk power rates and are interested in participating in our study, please contact Dr. Jennifer Schmidt at 1-907-786-5497 or by email at jischmidt@alaska.edu to schedule an interview. The research team will also directly contact qualified large commercial/industrial customers shortly.

Residential survey participants who are eligible and are not an employee of LBNL or the federal government will be automatically entered into the $250 sweepstakes upon completion of the survey. 2 The chance of winning is approximately 1 in 55 (Craig), 1 in 88 (Tok), and 1 in 131 (Haines/Skagway). Business survey participants who are eligible, complete the survey, and are not an employee of LBNL or the federal government will be given a $25 gift card for a local business.

The research team will immediately remove sensitive information after initial processing and before any analysis is performed. This information includes your name, account number, email address, mailing address, and any other personally identifiable information. The answers you provide will be kept strictly confidential and anonymized.

Please complete the survey by January 31, 2022.3

This study has been approved by the LBNL’s Institutional Review Board (Pro00023243). 2: If you are (1) eligible to participate, (2) are not interested in completing the survey, and (3) would like to be entered into the sweepstakes, then please contact Dr. Sunhee Baik by email (SHBaik@lbl.gov) to be entered into the sweepstakes. You must contact Dr. Baik before the close date of the survey (January 31, 2022) in order to be entered into the sweepstakes. Please note that you are required to (1) provide your full name, and (2) self-verify that you are at least 18 years old and not an employee of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory or the federal government. In addition, your email address needs to match your AP&T account contact information.

3: Our goal is to get 455 households and 153 businesses to participate in the survey. Once we meet the goal, the survey will close. If we do not reach our goal, we will close the survey on March 4, 2022.
